November update - New Aesyr design, Rulebook 4 players & Blind tests

Hello folks,

welcome to this November's update! Today we talk about Aesyr design, the 2vs2 rulebook and the blind test in Turin. Let's get started!

1. New Aesyr Design (Front & Back)

This past month we have been working on the graphics of the Aesyr cards. On the front, we added pictures of the catalysts, changed the font of the name, and also changed Rhen's appellation on the card below. But on the back we have the biggest change: it now encloses the Call and Awakening symbols and is in line with the other Feralis card backs.

2. Rulebook 2vs2

 Another step forward was to complete the rulebook for 2vs2. As always, you can help us see if it works: download it from the links below and write to us if you find anything you think is not working. We are blind testing the rulebooks as much as possible to make them clear and understandable.

3. Blind test in Turin

In early November we were in Turin for a blind test on Feralis. We were hosted by "La Gilda del Grifone" and it was a wonderful evening. We got so much feedback and filled so many tables with boards and cards, Aesyr vs Aesyr, Creatures vs Creatures. It is always a thrill to see you play and hear your feelings <3

October update - Fine-tuning of graphics & proofreading of cards

Hello folks,

welcome to this month's update!

Today we talk about cards, blind tests and proofreading, with lots of pictures. 

Ready? Let's get started!


1. New backs

Divine Skill cards officially have new backs, much more elegant and magical. Below you can see the difference between the old ones and the new ones. There are also those of the Aesyr and creature cards, for a complete view of the game. A big change, don't you think? 


2. Blind tests

Feralis is starting to run blind tests before printing. Between playrooms and playgroups in many different cities, we will soon have all the final files in our hands. Keep an eye on Instagram to find out where we will hold upcoming meetings: https://www.instagram.com/deergamesstudio/

3. Proofreading

An important part of the work is the proofreading part. A good game needs hours and hours of work on the cards and texts behind it, days and nights of work. But we're almost done and we're looking forward to the next steps.

4. Italian translation

Feralis will be distributed in several languages and for now, we are working on the Italian translation and adaptation. The next ones will be-- you'll find out soon!

September update - Illustrations & Rulebook completed!

September is here, we have left behind the summer heat (almost) and vacations and are back!

Before we start, one very important thing:

if you have not yet completed the survey do it now, because it is your last chance!

We have been reminding you for months, but 189 people are still missing.

Now to this month's news:


1. The illustrations are all ready

The illustrators' work is finished, and we have all the illustrations in their final version in our hands. What you see below are three extracts from the territory cards of the solo mode version. Very soon you will find out more about these territories, if you are curious go to Step 4.

2. The Rulebook is ready (English and Italian) 

Work on the rulebook is finally finished and we have both the English and Italian versions ready. If you would like to participate in the creation to make Feralis the best possible game, be our beta readers: proofread the latest version with us before printing and alert us to any errors we may have missed. Nobody's perfect, right? ;)

3. next steps

The next things to do will be several, we anticipate a couple of them: Editing all the cards, the layout of the components for the production run (which is getting closer and closer), and coordinating with ShipQuest to organize fulfillment. We look forward to having the first official version of Feralis in our hands and rest assured that as soon as we have it we will be spamming photos and videos EVERYWHERE. 

 4. Website e lore

Feralis: Obscure Land is set in the dark fictional world of Morkh, but if you think the background lore ends there you are wrong. Not only will the site be filled with pages dedicated to Aesyr, creatures, and territories, but soon the first short stories will appear that will immerse you in the lore of Feralis fully and draw you into the bloody adventures of Morgal, Nosgroth, Norad, and all the others. July update - editing rulebook, Pledge Manager and more

Hello folks,

July is here and we are back with a new update. We have a few things to tell you, including a crucial one. TL;DR: skip straight to the number 4.


1. Rulebook under construction

We are working on the latest version of the rules, inserting the most updated rules, correcting minor errors, and redefining the graphics so everything is clear and readable. Our editors are doing a great job and soon it will be the turn of the translators.


2. Files for printing: work in progress

Work on the printing components continues, it will be a long journey, one of the most labor-intensive parts at this point in the journey. Below is a stolen photo of our creative director at work checking that everything is in order.


3. We are working on shipments

The dialogue with our partners is open and warm. Organizing shipments is not easy, it will take time and energy, but by working well from the beginning things will go well. If talking about shipping now seems a bit premature (the game will be shipped in 2023) you have no idea how much work is behind it. And we are here to tell you about it and keep you updated ;)


4. Pledge Manager closes!

We close the Pledge Manager at the end of the month, so hurry up and fill it out, it's very close! More than 200 people have not yet completed the survey: if you don't complete it before the close of orders, the money will only be counted by Kickstarter as a donation. Be careful!!! (Remember that the shipping address can be changed until just before shipping, so you can complete the survey even if you don't have the final one and will have to change it later).


BONUS: the site is almost ready

This is just a tiny taste of what you will find on the site in the coming weeks, which is a mouth-watering amount of lore, updated month by month. The pens are up and running; are you ready to enter the world of Morkh?


5. Summer vacations

There will be no updates in August: we are taking some well-deserved rest after months of hard work. In this hot weather, it's best to unplug and come back full of energy in September.

June update - Optimisation of gameplay, lore and production progress

Hello folks,

summer is here now, but the hot days don't scare us away.  In between iced drinks, we've been working nonstop on Feralis: Obscure Land, and we're here today to tell you a little bit about the updates.


Gameplay update

Thanks to the consultancy of 2 other Game Designers, Martino Chiacchiera and Federico Pierlorenzi, we have refined the small gameplay frictions.

You can now find the incubation turn numbers printed on the game board. This means that you no longer have to turn over all the card dice each time, but you can slide them forward and scale the turns that way.  This solution applies to both the Divine Abilities discovered and the creatures on the incubator stands.

We have also revised the design of the Divine Skill cards: now the text is visible even if they are in the same loading position, just put one a little below the other.

The dice will always be present in the box and can be used used for games where you do not have the game board available.


We identified through testing a dominant strategy of using all catalysts in the first few turns to do too much damage to the opponent and gain too large an advantage.

To solve this issue, now the catalyst and defender tokens will be increased by one each turn. This means that you will not have them all available right away, but will need more turns, thus reducing the abuse of catalysts and defenders that risk bringing the game to a standstill if used unrestrained.


The tournament has reached the final 

A Feralis: Obscure Land tournament has been running on our Discord channel for a few weeks now: we have been testing the possibility of having no deck construction limits on selectable breeds. We have finally reached the finals, after seeing some great things. If you want to follow the games or try the game yourself, join our Discord.

We are starting to prepare the files for printing

We are closing the last balances of the cards, adjusting the quality and colors of the illustrations, fonts, symbols and the back of the cards so that everything is of the best quality. We know there is no such thing as perfection, but we like to come close. 


New homepage and lore section

The website needed a change and some space for other little things we wanted to add, so we decided to start working on it to make it better. Over the next few weeks, you will have not only a new homepage but also a section all about the game lore. Adventures will begin to be uploaded slowly by our story writer who has dozens of adventures and secrets in store for you to discover.  Are you ready to discover the lore behind Feralis: Obscure Land?


Our forest is growing

All the promised plants have been planted and our forest is more lush than ever. We have decided to add more from our own pockets as well because good deeds are never enough. If you want to take a tour of our trees, look for Deer Games Studio's forest on Tree-Nation.
